Mathew Cheruvil was born and raised in Koodalloor (Kottayam Dist) and after completing high school, his family moved to Payyavoor (Kannur Dist). Soon thereafter, he joined the ‘Indian Air Force’ and served for nine years. After completing his post-graduation from Delhi University, he moved to USA in 1983 and worked as a teacher in the Detroit Public School system. After twelve years, he started his own business and continues to this day. After moving to the U.S., Mr. Cheruvil joined the Detroit Malayalee Association and has been an active member ever since. He has held a variety of positions, including secretary for six terms; and 2013 will mark his fourth term as DMA president. Mr. Cheruvil is also a founding member of the Detroit Eagles Volleyball Club – which started in 1993 – and has taken the team to participate in the annual Jimmy George Memorial Volleyball Tournament since 1994. He has also served as chairman of the Kerala Volleyball League of North America (KVLNA) for five years (2005-2009). Mr. Cheruvil was also an active member of FOKANA, where he served as General Secretary from 2002 to 2004, and BOT Vice Chairman from 2006 to 2008. From 2009 to 2010, he was the National Advisory Council Chairman of FOMAA. He is also one of the founding members of the Knanaya Catholic Society of Detroit-Windsor.Mr. Cheruvil is married to his lovely wife, Mercy, for 33 years, and has three children: Dimple, Diana and David.
Sunil K. Sivaraman is from Ernakulam. He completed his Bachelors Degreee in Engineering from India. He has been in the United States since 1991, where he did his Master’s in Computer Science from University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth. He has been working for Ford Motor Company for the last 19 years and is an Information Technology(IT) Manager. He is married to Dr. Mini Sunilkumar who is from Kaladi (Chowara) and they have two daughters Shruthi and Sanjana. His family also includes his mother Rajeswary Sivaram, and lives in Troy. He has been an active office bearer/participant for DMA and other leading organization like Federation of Malayalee Associations (FOMA), MILAN, KHNA for the past 10 years. He is also the Co-Chair for IT Diversity Action Team for Ford Motor Company. He is a vivid reader, traveller and loves spending time with his family.
Manoj Jaiji was born and raised in Ernakulam and graduated from CET. He was very active in literary, social, service, sports and cultural activities during his school days. He moved to USA in 2000 to pursue his career in IT and has been working and living in MI ever since. He currently lives in Novi along with his wife Cimi and their two children Jerusha and Joshua.
Rajesh Kutty was born in Nemmara, Palakkad and completed his graduation at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. Subsequently, he headed west in 1996 to pursue his MBA from Cardiff Business School, University of Wales. After working in UK for little over a year, Rajesh’s IT consulting led him to Los Angeles for 3 years and eventually Michigan, where he is now settled for over a decade with his wife Shreekala and son Aditya. He is an ardent supporter of music and performing arts. Rajesh is known for his active involvement in the community and charity work across multiple organizations winning a commendation from State of Michigan and Canton Township for his social and community work. Representing Canton he has also served as the Chairperson for Election Inspection during the 2012 US Presidential elections. Among others, he currently serves as the Board Member of the Wayne Mediation Center and is also a Trustee Director of the Detroit Cristo Rey High School.
Surendran Nair was born and brought up in Trivandrum, Kerala. After completing his college education at the University College, Trivandrum, he joined the Kerala Government Service. He left his job in 2006, and immigrated to the US with his family. He was very active in the political and social scene early on from his life. He served as the State President of a youth wing in one of the prominent political fronts, and has worked with multiple sociocultural and literary organizations in the state. He had also served as the Directory Board member of multiple co-operative banks in and around Trivandrum. He is married to Jaya Surendran, and has two kids, Neetu and Sabari. Currently, he works at the Henry Ford Health System. After immigrating to America, he continues his passion to remain active in the social, literary and communal scenes of the Indian community.
James Kureekkattil was born and brought up in Manippara, Kannur district of Kerala. After completing his Masters in Literature, James has been a teacher and a Resource Person for the Block Resource Center’s (BRC) for teachers training in Kerala. He is married to Sholly who is also from Kannur and has a daughter Soja and a son Joel. James moved to USA in 2007.He secured an Associate Degree in Applied Science from MI, USA and has been working and living in MI ever since. James is also actively involved with the activities of Michigan Literary Association.
